April was Autism Awareness Month!

(this newsletter was supposed to go out earlier...oops.)

 Did you know one of the main reasons we began Rust & Sawdust is because Jared is on the autism spectrum?  After decades of struggling through "regular" work, we decided it was best to find a solution where Jared can work in a more comfortable environment & work hours that are better suited to his needs.  It's been rewarding to see how Jared has been able to use his prior job experience & learned hobby skills in this business--carpentry, building, welding, powder coating, & mechanics (seeing/knowing how things fit together). Even though he struggled sometimes to "make it" at a job, that the skills he's learned are now being utilized in a creative & fruitful way.

recent custom work

We met an awesome client at one of our shows last season!  He is a collector, particularly of art deco antiques & oddities.  He acquired these cast iron theater seat end caps & asked Jared to build a custom storage bench out of it.  Jared fabricated all of the metal innards & structure & put new veneer on some oak theater seats we already had. Jared's specialty is crafting old parts into new pieces that look like they've always been that way.
